How is Stone Repaired?

It depends on the extent of the damage to the stone. Hairline cracking can be repaired with an epoxy injection process and a clear coat gel to match the original color of the stone. In severe cracking cases, a process called stitching can be used which involves widening a joint and installing stainless steel pins adjacent to the crack in the stone and filling with epoxy and a clear coat gel to fix the existing stone. Small Spalls can be patched with a cementious stone patching material custom made to match the color of the original stone.

Another method is called a dutchman repair, where a piece of the stone is cut out, and a new stone is installed with epoxy and clear gel. This is a good process if you have existing stone to match the original.

How Long Does it Take to Get a Replacement Stone?

It depends on the size, type, and location of the new stone source. If you have a particular stone you need to match, give us a call at 763-420-2794 or email us.
